Retrofit Design

Retrofit Design
Retrofit design is the process of updating and improving existing buildings or systems by incorporating modern elements and technology to older structures to meet current standards or needs, often with a focus on sustainability and energy conservation.

STEP 1: INITIAL CONSULTATION STAGE
You contact us to discuss the improvements that you are hoping to make and let us know any problems that you currently have with your home. We’ll listen to your concerns and give you our initial feedback to your queries. We will then arrange a date to carry out the initial assessment of your property.

STEP 2: BER SURVEY & GRANT QUALIFICATION ASSESSMENT STAGE
A Building Energy Rating (BER) Survey is carried out on the existing house to assess the energy performance and determine its suitability for SEAI Grants for Insulation, Windows & Doors, Heat-Pump & PV Panel under the Individual Grants Scheme. If you decide not to proceed with improvement works you will still receive a BER Certificate showing your home's current BER Rating and energy performance indicators.

STEP 3: GRANT QUALIFICATION IMPROVEMENT WORKS SPECIFICATION STAGE
If the Heat Loss Indicator (HLI) is above 2.0 your home would not be suitable for a heat-pump or windows & doors grants without insulation retrofit works being carried out to improve its energy performance. We will examine your home's energy performance and recommend improvement works which would ensure your home would have a suitable energy performance for the installation of your heat-pump or windows & doors.

You will be provided with a Home Energy Assessment Report & Dwelling Details Report showing the levels the proposed improvement works will improve your home's energy performance.

STEP 4: HEAT-PUMP HEATING DESIGN ANALYSIS REPORT STAGE
Once your home has been assessed as having a suitable energy performance (or will after improvement works) it is necessary to check that your existing heating system will be able to heat your home to the required temperatures when your heat-pump is installed. This will involve checking the heat-loss for each room to ensure your existing radiators/underfloor heating system have an adequate output to heat the room using the more energy efficient heat-pump heating system. In most instances they will be fine but in some cases some radiators may need to be replaced to improve the heat output to heat the room to the levels required.

STEP 5: QUOTATION STAGE
Once you have discussed your chosen improvements with the energy consultant and we have been provided with have detailed specification of the improvement works required to retrofit your homes energy performance, we will contact and negotiate with registered contractors as necessary to achieve the most accurate tender and provide you with your quotation for the completion of the required improvement works.

STEP 6: TECHNICAL ASSESSMENT STAGE
This stage is necessary once you have confirmed your wish to proceed with your heat-pump installation. A technical assessment is a prerequisite to applying for the heat pump grant in some cases. Basically, the job of the technical assessor is to independently verify on behalf of the SEAI that your house is suitable to have a heat pump installed from a heat loss perspective.

STEP 7: GRANT APPLICATION STAGE
Once you have confirmed you wish to proceed to have the necessary improvement works carried out, we liaise with all sub-contractors on your behalf and prepare for submission all grant related paperwork on your behalf to the SEAI.

STEP 8: FINANCE APPLICATION DOCUMENTATION STAGE
If necessary, we will arrange preparation of Construction Cost Estimate & finance application documentation for the retrofit improvement works to house as required if you require to make a finance application to your bank or credit union.

STEP 9: RETROFITTING IMPROVEMENT WORKS STAGE
We arrange a suitable schedule for the completion of the agreed retrofit improvement works to your home. We will supervise and ensure all works are carried out to the correct technical standards and specifications and to the best level of workmanship.

STEP 10: BER CERTIFICATE & ADVISORY REPORT (EXISTING DWELLING)
A Building Energy Rating (BER) Certificate on completion of the project as required to drawdown SEAI grants applied for.

STEP 11: GRANT DRAWDOWN DOCUMENTATION STAGE
Once all improvement works have been completed to the required standards and inspected by the energy consultant, we will prepare for submission all grant related paperwork on your behalf to the SEAI in order to process your grant drawdown.
